I don’t what’s the best way to reply to a reply, so I’ll just do it this way…
US Marine Corps is a part of the US Navy - it’s a subdivision. Yet, they operate independent from each other. The USMC mission statement is not the same as that of the US Navy and their training is completely different as well. Marines are trained mostly in infantry - they believe that every Marine is first a rifleman. And even the ranking system is different for the USMC.Also, on a more individual/personal level, you can just tell from talking to them for a few minutes: Marines just act differently. So no, I’d have to say they are definitely not the same.
The history behind it all is actually very interesting, if you’re into history of warfare and the like. PBS has a good Marine Corps documentary too. It might even be on Netflix instant watch.
